Our Story
WDUA began just two weeks after the 2016 presidential election, as a group of North Dallas women – bewildered but unbowed – gathered to figure out a plan to stem the erosion of democracy and the division in our country. The working title of the group was “What Would Ann Richards Do?” But after several months of meetings, the decision was made to add ACTION to our education and issue advocacy work. Our numbers swelled and grew beyond our neighborhoods; we incorporated ACTION into our name and game plan. Women of Dallas United for Action was born.
We help Democratic candidates at a grassroots level by urging people to get involved in their precincts, districts, city, state and nation. We host candidate forums, encourage political action – from writing and phoning our representatives to making campaign contributions – and we attempt to get out the vote by any legal means necessary. Together, we block walk, register people to vote, hold fundraisers. Together, we feel connected and productive as we model the civic values that we hope and pray will help us heal our country.
